Poker Talent on the Road to Success

Now that the dust has settled on November’s £100k tournament, we thought we’d bring you a good news story from the event, with a bit of a difference.

Sally Smerdon, from Waterloo in Liverpool, entered the tournament after winning her place in one of the CircusPoker.co.uk online qualifiers. Already a keen amateur player, she approached it with high hopes and, after playing the game of her life, ended up finishing in 7th place, taking home more than £4,000 in winnings.

But while most players would start planning their spending spree, Sally decided to put the money towards pursuing a long-held dream – retraining as a driving instructor.

Sally, an untrained probation officer, had long given up on the idea after spending the last six years caring for her elderly mother and finding out there was no prospect of receiving any financial support towards the cost of the £3,000 course.

However, all that has changed and she’s now looking forward to starting her new career – all because she entered the £100k tournament! If she’s half as good at driving as she is at poker, we reckon she’s got a glittering instructing career ahead of her!
