The Big Blog

Have you ever faked it?

Hello and welcome to the first ever entry on our new blog – you can read it on CircusCasino.com or CircusPoker.co.uk.

My name’s Lee and I’m part of the online team. You’ll be hearing a lot from me over the coming weeks, as well as from my colleague Mike. We’d love to hear your feedback, too.

We’re about to embark on a really exciting ‘live’ poker experiment at CircusPoker.co.uk which you’ll be able to read all about and get involved with right here on this blog.

The idea is simple: do you remember a programme on Channel 4 a few years ago called ‘Faking It’, where people have to convince a panel of pros that they’re experts at something, when really they’ve never done it before in their life?

Well, we’re going to do something similar. Our friend, Adam Ralph, who is one of the writers on Nuts magazine, is really interested in poker, but, to be fair, he’s a complete amateur.

Over the next eight weeks, we’re going to be training him up to play like a pro – he’ll be learning everything from the key hands you should play, through to the type of banter you’re likely to hear around a real life table, not to mention some of the shorthand phrases you’ll see over at CircusPoker.co.uk.

We’re starting with some of the basics – one of the guys at CircusPoker.co.uk is going to teach him the hands, the terminology, the structure of games, and everything else he knows.

After a few sessions, we’re going to get Adam to play live online (so keep your eyes peeled if you want to try and take him out). After a fair bit more training, things are going to start getting interesting…

In October, he’s going to try and qualify – all on his own – for CircusCasino.com’s Second Chance Poker Classic tournament (the one with the £100k guaranteed prize pot).

The final is taking place at Circus Casino at Star City Birmingham – now what are the odds that he’ll end up winning it? Funnier things have happened, that’s for sure.

Over the coming weeks you’ll be able to read all about his exploits on this blog and hopefully learn something new yourself too. He’ll also be reporting on his experiences on www.nuts.co.uk so make sure you check that out too.

Our online poker expert, Waldolf1 (who will be introducing himself later in the week – watch this space!) will be training him up, along with a few special guest poker pros who will be sharing their knowledge.

To help Adam do the best he can, we’ll be asking for your advice and tips over the coming weeks and we will incorporate the best ones into his training plan.

Finally, before I go, let us know what you think of this blog - if there’s any areas you think we can improve then please get in touch.

I've got a tip for him: Don't play when drunk or upset. You need to be thinking rationally, not emotionally when you play.
