Hand Histories and Cold Decks

www.CircusPoker.co.uk is sponsoring up-and-coming poker talent, Daiva Barauskaite, to play in the £100k ‘Second Chance’ poker classic tournament and she’ll be exclusively blogging about her experiences right here.
The first half of last night I played a few sit ‘n go’s. It seemed to be one of those nights when you run into a lot of cold decks; Queens into Kings, Ace–Queen into Ace–King and then rounded off losing one game to a higher set on set. Nothing to be too disheartened by and I’ll just have to hope the same doesn’t happen on Saturday for the £100k main event.
This seemed like a propitious time to turn my attention to my recent hand histories in tournaments. I often go through these retrospectively to pick up on any potential mistakes, in bet sizes, certain situations, and whether in general I could have played certain hands better. The more I can identify mistakes I’ve made previously, the more I can avoid making them again. There’s also the advantage of seeing certain plays you managed to get through, and then store them in your armoury for the future. There’s a wealth of information contained in your hand histories which will help you become a better player over the long term and I’m hoping it will help to continue to improve my game for some time to come...
