Grim Reaper revels in WPT at London's Palm Beach Casino

Palm Beach Casino, Mayfair, London played host to the inaugural WPT London Poker Classic Main Event this weekend and a stunning performance from 22yr old Jake Cody landed the cheque for £273,783.

Cody, adds the WPT title to that of the EPT Deauville which he collected earlier this year. Swede Nichlas Mattsson was runner-up and fellow Swede, 21-year-old online qualifier Kristoffer Thorsson was fourth, saving the sponsors a $1million payout by virtue of the online bonus ($500,000 for himself and an extra $500,000 for his fellow online qualifiers) if he finished won the event.

Thorsson dominated for much of the final table but eventually it was Cody who went through the motions to land the main event.

Cody, playfully dubbed ‘The Grim Reaper' by Dave ‘Devilfish' Ulliott, was buoyant after his win. "This is crazy - I am so happy to win my first WPT title. It's been an amazing year for me and to win a major tournament on home soil is very, very special. I thought that Kristoffer must have been under immense pressure because of the extra $1 million bonus and I thought he did well as a result of it. I actually believe he was the best player at the table, but I am thankful for the win."
