New York’s Aqueduct Racetrack is set for a billion dollar make over from Genting New York after the gaming company was granted a licence to develop and operate the new casino Resorts World New York, with a total of 4,500 electronic slot machines.
According to a report in the New York Daily News, Genting New York has agreed to pay an upfront licensing fee of $380 million within ten days approval of the project and construction could then begin at the Queens racetrack with plans for up to 1,300 construction jobs and 800 permanent jobs, as well as eventual hopes to add table games like black jack and roulette.
The plan involves Genting New York building a 450-seat two-storey casual dining promenade, a pair of high-end restaurants, a sports bar and parking facilities for 7,000 cars.
Genting New York has pledged to work closely NYRA (New York Racing Association) the operators of Aqueduct Racetrack and expect to open the preliminary phase of Resorts World New York in early 2011. State officials say they expect to eventually get $1 million a day in revenue from the racino.
