The London poker scene is alive this week after the conclusion of the WSOPE on Tuesday, The European Poker Tour’s (EPT) London Main Event has commenced almost immediately with 848 players setting a British record for the biggest starting field for a live poker tournament in Britain and a prize pool in excess of £4 million.

American Soheb Porbandarwala ended Day 1A as the chip leader at 218,600 on Wednesday. The online qualifier was the only player to cross the 200,000-chip mark and is well ahead of Konstantin Bucherl’s second haul of 187,900.

Not so lucky on Day 1A was Roland de Wolfe, who only 24hours earlier had collected £278,000 when fourth in the WSOPE. The A-J in de Wolfe’s final hand got beaten in a race against pocket tens and the board came up with five cards nine or lower.

By the end of day 1 properly, it was Italian Claudio Cecchi who made a late surge to finish the day as the overall chip leader with 237,500. Some of games biggest names are in town, former footballer Tony Cascarino sits down on day two with 181,400 chips, whilst also in town are the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, and Liv Boeree.

With so many players in town it’s not surprising that the Palm Beach poker room has been super lively this week hosting one of the biggest nightly cash games in town.

And, with Monday (4th October) night hosting the monthly Palm Beach Big Game, at just £1000 + £80 for a single day event and so much poker talent in town, this could easily become a £100,000 game!
