The world's biggest casino operator has founded a new division charged with developing opportunities for online European gaming.

Betastic says an EGaming review magazine report named Harrah's Entertainment, saying the new venture will be called Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment (HIE).

According to the report, the initiative will be led by Mitch Garber, who is the former ParyPoker chief executive.

The aims of HIE will also involve running the development of World Series of Poker (WSOP), which is owned by Harrah's.

Quoted by Betastic, company president and chief executive Gary Loveman said: "Harrah's is taking a proactive approach toward international and interactive expansion.

"It is important we position ourselves to explore new markets as well as new technologies with our best in class brands."

Harrah's already runs land-based venues in Europe, including in the UK, but it is yet to make a major move into internet gaming.
