The Beacon Bingo chain could be brought back under the wing of Simon Thomas after he was quoted as saying a buyback could be on the cards.
Mr Thomas was quoted by the Independent as saying: "I am tempted to look at Beacon, yes – but not yet."
A deal three years ago saw Beacon sold to Hermes Private Equity by the Thomas family for £80 million, but the chain has struggled recently, the paper adds.
Mr Thomas is also behind the £15 million casino redevelopment of the London hippodrome.
He is chairman of United Leisure Gaming which is in discussions with four banks to fund the hippodrome project.
