Winter snow threatens casinos in Atlantic City

The casino industry in Atlantic City has suffered a little in recent times, most notably due to the effects on the economy of a global recession.

In the last few days, however, trouble has come in a different shape, namely the stress and frustration caused by a run of bad weather that has brought heavy snow to the area.

The city lost hundreds of millions of dollars in casino revenue due to the recession, and is now set to lose more because snow is effectively closing the place off.

There have been an unusually high number of snowstorms in the Northeast this year, all of which are having the effect of preventing people from leaving their homes to gamble.

Boyd Gaming, the organisation that runs the Borgata casino, released some figures recently that showed just how devastating the snow had been.

The casino lost $5 million in revenue due to the first snowstorm in late 2009. Boyd officials believe that ‘another $5 million’ will be lost throughout the rest of the winter season.

One kind of casino that will not suffer falling revenue is the online casino. Websites that provide gambling experiences are rapidly becoming the venue of choice for many gamblers.
