Thankfully British Servicemen can still Gamble Online

The US Government’s administrative arm for the US military, the Pentagon, has finally declared the details of a unified Internet usage policy for its servicemen and women.

The average personnel member will be able to use the Internet for social and messaging websites, but there is one kind of website that is most definitely off limits to the US military.

Online gambling through online casinos is strictly prohibited under the new guidelines.

Up until this week, it was entirely the prerogative of each individual sector of the military as regards how the Internet could be used when it came to social networking sites.

The Marine Corp took action back in 2007, by prohibiting the use of social networking sites, but the new, Pentagon led rules will allow all branches of the military to be doing the same as regards the Internet.

Facebook and Twitter, as well as other social networking sites, have been very useful to servicemen and women, especially those who were stationed overseas and wanted to get in touch with loved ones back home.

However, with the US government banning online gambling anyway, there was never really a possibility of the military being able to use these online casinos. Thankfully the British Government have recognised that if our soldiers have chosen to fight for our country, they have also got the right to choose to gamble online.
