San Jose may have casino expansion

In San Jose, California, voters have to decide whether or not the state will add more gambling.

There are currently two card clubs situated in San Jose, and the gambling expansion proposals will focus on these two establishments.

The resulting expansion, if agreed, would bring higher taxes on gambling revenue, and subsequent greater tax derived income for the state.

The city council had to vote on the issue of having the matter on the ballot.

They voted this week, on Tuesday, and brought about a 6-5 ruling on having the issue balloted in June.

There is a shortfall in the city budget, and this is one reason why council members have voted for the ballot to take place.

The budget shortfall totals $116 million, and if left to get worse, could mean layoffs too for workers in the city.

The raised taxes on the two clubs in question, Bay 101 and Garden City would bring in anticipated revenue that would total $5.25 million.

Officials in San Jose also stated that the clubs need to be able to expand at the same time so that higher tax does not force them out.

This activity is happening while online gambling is seeing much expansion, with online casinos growing at a considerable rate.
