GSA to look at online gaming protocol

Posted by Carl Barnett on 18 Mar 2010 at 09:03

A unique body, the Internet Gaming Study Committee has been created in the United States, with a remit of looking carefully at the way Internet gaming is carried out.

The Gaming Standards Association has created the committee in order to observe distribution channels, technology and the implementation of open standards. The Committee will determine if a business need exists for an online gaming protocol, one that would benefit providers as well as players.

The GSA is an international body that represents gaming manufacturers and suppliers, as well as operators and regulators.

It stated that it was not going to have a committee that would write new protocol standards, but that it would instead examine ‘the operator and supplier environment, technology and regulatory landscape’.

Peter De Raedt, President of the GSA, told Online Casino News: ‘Members of the GSA who are both operators and manufacturers are very interested in understanding how an internet gaming standard would benefit the gaming industry at large.’
