DeLeo states his case

Robert DeLeo, house Speaker at Boston, continues to articulate his defence for the proposal he has made involving racetracks and the siting of casinos.
DeLeo is currently wielding a bill that would expand upon the gambling options at four racetracks in his state.
He maintained on Tuesday that the areas around the four racetrack venues have already ‘accepted’ gambling, and should be granted licences, rather than having the licences put up for grabs.
DeLeo has often repeated that the live horse racing that goes on at the racetracks is to stay, but this week he also opined that there would be an increase on purses and other benefits if slot machines were permitted at the four venues.
He touched upon the issue of casino operators, meaning the companies and organisations that would be allowed to develop the complexes.
Quoted in The Daily Item of Lynn, DeLeo says the selection of casino operators would have to be an ‘open bidding process’ and that he hoped the people who receive the building contracts can ‘build a casino’.
States are currently looking for opportunities to use gambling, including online gambling, as a means to boost revenue after the recession.
