Casino project turned down in Leeds

A casino project in the North of England has failed to materialise, with a judge ruling that the project was not able to meet an ‘unmet need’.
A Las Vegas style entertainment complex was to be developed in City Square, Leeds, but the developers have been told that there is no demand for the complex as it stands.
The developers, Waterimage, had applied for a gaming license of a disused nightclub, called The Majestyk.
They had plans to invest £14 million to turn the unit into a cabaret and casino venue.
The firm had appealed against a decision that had been given in 2008 by judges, who had decided that there was not enough demand for another casino in Leeds city centre.
They felt that the Alea casino in the docks area met gambling requirements in Leeds, so there was no need for another casino.
The directors of Waterimage had argued, in their appeal, that the other casino operators in the area were not providing the kind of entertainment that they had promised to do.
Yesterday Judge Jennifer Kershaw rejected this appeal.
Online casinos, meanwhile, proliferate and are becoming incredibly successful, with the industry buoyed up by international marketing campaigns.
Many gamblers are turning to online casinos for their enjoyment, due to lower prices and more competitive payouts
