Prince George’s county in Maryland could soon be having its first casino. The casino would offer standard gambling table games, including poker and Blackjack.
The proposed casino is being pushed by the state Senate president, Thomas V Mike Miller Jr.
He has proposed adding gambling as an activity at the Rosecroft Raceway, using a bill that would allow the place to have a commercial gambling licence. The race track, which is in Fort Washington, would need some work doing to it at first, which would mean a bill of $51 million for renovations.
There would be further costs for the state too, with an extra $30 million in costs to build the casino itself.
Miller spoke this week to the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee, saying: ‘We’re not talking about a casino; we’re just talking about a card game. We should have moved forward on this six years ago. Everybody here knows that, and we didn’t for the wrong reasons.’
Rosecroft is situated quite near to the White House, with a fourteen mile distance between the two establishments.
There is a lot of activity as regards gambling in the United States, with much discussion taking place in the media about online gambling, due to the fact that the UIGEA is to be discussed again in June.
