Companies interested in running a brand new casino close to Birmingham will be meeting with council officials this week.

The Solihull News says interested parties will be talking to the local authority after the area was earmarked as one of a number around the country to get a brand new casino venue.

The local council has already launched a consultation on how its gaming policy should be drawn up.

After this policy has been finalised, the process to select the gaming company which will get the casino licence will begin.

The rules will ensure that competition criteria are taken into account before a licence is issued, and they will also include detail on how people's views on the new casino would be gathered, including how they expect it to benefit the local area.

According to the Solihull News, a spokeswoman from the local council said the meeting with potential operating companies would allow them to get an idea of the council's expectations and to understand how their plans could benefit the local area.
