Gambling revenue in one of America's traditional gaming hotspots went down significantly in June, according to reports.
Casino Gambling Web said casino owners in Atlantic City were scratching their heads again after revenue dipped 13.6 per cent compared to the same period last year.
The overall revenue added up to $322.7 million, far less than has been recorded in better years.
The one plus point for casino owners was the fact the numbers were better than those recorded in May.
The month before June saw a dip of 15.4 per cent in revenue and the first six months of 2009 saw casinos down 15.3 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Such is the extent of the problems in the industry, casino bosses in other areas are turning to unusual methods to attract new customers, the web site added.
Casinos Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut have planned to put billboards in torthern New Jersey to try to tempt gamblers to go north instead of south.
If the gamble pays off, any reduction in customers could send some Atlantic City casino venues into bankruptcy, Casino Gambling Web said, as some are already hanging on by their fingertips.
Besides Connecticut, New York has also ramped up the competition pressure on Atlantic City.
The site also added that Pennsylvania along with Las Vegas Sands could also hit the Atlantic City skyline hard with the New Bethlehem casino.
