The Kansas Lottery has taken the step of turning down an application to build the proposed state-owned casino in the south-east section of Kansas, US.

The company that had proposed building the casino, Ozark Trail Gaming LLC, were informed of the decision the Lottery made on Tuesday.

The decision came in the form of a letter, stating that the company did not have the financial backing to build the casino.

In addition, the Kansas Lottery put it to Ozark that they did not have the required level of experience when it came to running a casino operation.

Ozark's plan was to develop a casino in Cherokee County, which is close to the border with Oklahoma.

The state is still taking offers for the project, and is asking that any interested parties show that they have the sum of $225 million for a minimum investment.

They are expected to choose a company in the New Year.

Meanwhile, Kansas' first state-owned casino is on the cards for a December opening.

It will be located in Dodge City.
