Lawmakers fight over online gambling

Posted by Carl Barnett on 21 Dec 2009 at 11:12

The upcoming legal threat to online gambling has caused some excitement among United States lawmakers.

The new UIGEA, which seeks to severely limit the online gambling industries' sources of business, is being contested by a variety of lawmakers in the United States.

Letters have been delivered to some very influential men, including Ben Bernanke and Timothy Geithner, head of the Federal Reserve and Treasury Secretary respectively.

These letters are seen as an attempt to delay the bill from being passed. There have also been letters from people who are against online gambling in all its forms.

A Senator named as John Kyl and the representative Spencer Bachus have written and sent a letter, which claims that there is no need to delay any longer.

The man responsible for beginning the process of protecting online gambling, Barney Frank, has worked to keep the issue in the headlines.

It is his legislation that, if successful, would bring regulation to the online gambling industry.
