Poker run to help veterans

Posted by Carl Barnett on 16 Apr 2010 at 10:04

A poker run that is due to take place later this week will be utilised as a vehicle to help veterans.

A Cape Coral organisation will benefit from proceeds from the event, and use the revenue to help provide food and clothing as well as other essentials to veterans and their families.

The Invest in America’s Veterans Foundation will start its poker run at Fort Myers, with a view to ending the proceedings at Cape Coral. The event will involve stops and play at five venues.

The special projects coordinator for the foundation, Mark Saunders, told Cape Coral Daily Breeze: ‘The money goes toward the foundation in order to feed, clothe – whatever a veteran’s needs are – to assist in school. It is utilised here at our location to help veterans.’

The program is a totally free outreach program for veterans, with the support it offers including such efforts as providing breakfast and lunch daily as well as helping veterans secure jobs that are fulfilling and safe.

The program and the event itself are open to anyone who would like to get involved.

Poker runs involve travelling from venue to venue, playing a hand and enjoying entertainment.
