New HeadsUp poker show

HeadsUp Entertainment has announced that they plan to create and broadcast a poker reality TV series for television, which will contain between 12-16 contestants.

It is expected that casting calls will screen thousands of contestants, with the lucky final few being asked to appear on the new show.

Some major television stations in the United States, such as NBC and Fox Entertainment – which is owned by media giant Rupert Murdoch – have produced reality TV shows that are centred around the game of poker.

Reality TV is a profitable genre to be involved in for any production company if they get the formula right, and HeadsUp are hoping that the combination of reality programming and poker – which is popular both in land based casinos as well as in online casinos - will strike a chord with audiences.

Kelly Kellner, who is President and Chief Executive Officer of HeadsUp, told PokerNewsHeadlines: ‘There is no question that television audiences in at least 20 countries throughout the world have shown an overwhelming interest in poker television. Our market study has concluded that we can sell the series in at least 10-12 English speaking countries.’ ‘We are now negotiating with potential sponsors for the series and we believe we can complete production of the series for broadcast in this fall’s television schedule’.
