APAT’s latest leg of its UK Poker Championship has finished in London; won by John Murray who takes away £3,500 in prize money.
Murray, from Portsmouth, endured a challenging final battle with the runner-up Don Roberts.
As well as the prize money that the event bestowed upon him, Murray also won a gold medal, and a guaranteed seat at any one of the upcoming GUKPT tournaments.
This is not Murray’s first win at such a tournament, as he took first place in 2008 at another APAT tournament when he was a member of the Ireland team. This Irish team had a good result that year winning, the then European, Amateur Team Championship.
As well as his individual glories Murray also captains the Poker Club that is based in Solent, which takes part on a regular basis in the APAT National League contests. The same event saw the Brighton GUKPT champion win the professional Pot Limit Hold’Em tournament.
Poker has been the beneficiary of lots of great publicity in recent times, with a resurgence in popularity in the game in online casino environments as well as at land based casino venues across the world.
