Icelandic ash doesn’t stop poker

The recent bad news as regards Icelandic volcanic ash, which has crippled air travel throughout northern Europe, has not stopped one major land based poker tournament from going ahead in the region.
The European Poker Tour has just started a leg in San Remo, and there was a huge turnout for the event despite there having been some transport issues as regards to travelling to the venue. With the majority of airports being closed throughout the continent some players have resorted to travelling on the second day by bus.
A total of 585 payers registered for the first day seats and then battled it out, leaving, by the end of the first day, just 274 players left.
One to watch has been Alexey Rybin, a Russian who is relatively unknown in the world of poker. He ended the first day as a leader in chips, with what some noted as a very confident display of poker putting him through to Day Two of the competition with relative ease.
Some more familiar names make up the rest of the leader board, with Luca Pagano and Anton Wigg showing up to play and doing well after the first day of battle.
