The French Parliament has made a landmark decision, and has made the way clear for legalised and regulated online poker in the country.
This has made the country the latest in a line of states that have considered options as regards taxing of online gambling and decided in favour of allowing the sport to take place within legal limits.
The French bill has made it clear that there will be a 2% tax on online poker, and has qualified the decision even further by stating that only ‘licensed’ providers will be able to offer online gambling experiences to the citizens of the country.
The Budget Minister for the country, Francois Baroin, told The Daily Telegraph: ‘This text will allow us to progressively dry up the black market in online gambling by creating a legal offer which obeys the rules.’
It has been widely recognised that France has always been a country that has openly embraced the poker culture.
It also became one of the first hosts of the World Poker Tour, becoming the very first stop on the tour outside of the United States of America. The USA still has to make a decision on the future of online gambling within its jurisdiction.
