Casino charity benefits children

A toy library in New Zealand’s Queenstown has become a beneficiary of $4000 from a trust that uses profits from a casino to give to good causes. Queenstown’s Wakatipu Toy Library has received the gift, and it has been used to buy new toys and books, as well as a bouncy castle.

The gift came from the Sky City Queenstown Casino Community Trust. The bouncy castle is a particular boon for the toy library, and it is intended to be used for party hire.

Samantha Fisk, who is the toy librarian, spoke to the Otago Daily Times, saying: ‘Skycity’s grant came at just the right time for us. We have been able to buy a heap of toys from our wish list and deliver great benefit to our members.’

The funding received from the grant is also to be used to assist in the training of some of the library’s volunteers.

Skycity Queenstown spokesperson Michelle Baillie told the Otago Daily Times: ‘The Wakatipu Toy Library is a great place for parents and children to borrow fun and educational toys and games that they can enjoy together at home.’

Casinos, both land based and online casinos, have enjoyed a rise in profits recently, and this has meant more has been made available to the communities in the form of grants such as those that the Toy Library received.
