Poker tour host hits out at tax plans

The company which hosts the Grosvenor UK poker tour has criticised government tax increases on poker profits made in casinos.
Rank group, which owns the Grosvenor brand, is unhappy with the hike from 15 per cent to 50 per cent.
The company has since written to the government warning the increase could see casino poker rooms closed, meaning demand could go underground and into unsupervised and untaxed premises.
Rank has a host of poker rooms in its casino chain and these are thought to host 250,000 regular poker players. The company says it could lose as much as £2.7 million a year if the tax hike is pushed through.
