An unusual cash haul has been uncovered after a man was spotted using counterfeit money in a casino in Leeds.
According to the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, the man was arrested last Thursday after staff in the casino saw the £20 notes being used.
Police then tracked him down and found he was carrying £60 in the counterfeits, then discovered £2,000 inside his car.
The paper says officers then found another £5,000 following a search of his house for a grand total of £7,000, with most of this thought to be genuine money.
As a result the haul belonging to the 42-year-old from Dewsbury has been seized for the time being while an investigation is run into how he got hold of it.
The Huddersfield Daily Examiner adds the man has been arrested on suspicion of money laundering offences and being in possession of counterfeit currency. Officers have also discovered a number of financial documents and have bailed the man for the time being.
Quoted by the paper, Inspector Mark Jessop said: "Local people have a huge part to play in putting a stop to criminals living the high life from the proceeds of crime, and reporting people they suspect of this to us will get the ball rolling by allowing us to start an investigation."
