Leisure firm linked to Manchester's 'supercasino' site

New developments could be afoot at a Manchester site which was originally earmarked for Britain's first super casino.

Intergame Online says a company is now being linked to a regeneration plan for the area after executives met with officials from the local council.

The site says Crain's Manchester Business ran a report and said Paul Gregg, one of the directors of Apollo Resorts and Leisure, held a meeting with the local authority.

Apollo owns a 40 per cent stake in Apollo Casino Resorts, says Intergame, with the rest owned by a big European operator - Casinos Austria International, which has been linked to investment in UK bar, casino and nightclub schemes.

It is thought any development involving the Manchester site could involve a casino as part of an overall shopping and hotel facility.

The regeneration of the actual area is being organised by New East Manchester, which is due to unveil final plans for the site in the near future.

Back in January, Eddie Smith, the group's chief executive, said: "The scale of the development planned is anticipated to be very significant, with investment of hundreds of millions of pounds, bringing the potential for thousands of new jobs."

According to Intergame Online, the organisation, and Apollo, were unable to comment, while a Manchester City Council spokesman said proposals were still being looked at.
